Why Does My Fireplace Need Enlarging?
In some properties, the existing fireplace opening is not large enough to safely accommodate the chosen stove while maintaining the required clearances around the appliance. Building Regulations and the stove manufacturer's installation instructions specify minimum distances between the stove and any combustible or non-combustible materials to ensure safe operation and effective heat circulation.
Enlarging the fireplace recess may be necessary to:
Provide sufficient clearance around the stove for safe installation.
Allow adequate airflow and heat dissipation.
Ensure access for flue pipe connections and future maintenance.
Comply with current Building Regulations and manufacturer requirements.
Achieve a balanced and visually appealing installation.
Where a fireplace opening is too small, widening or increasing the height of the recess allows the stove to be installed correctly, safely, and in accordance with industry standards, helping to maximise both performance and longevity of the appliance.
Once the chamber is prepared we will be able to measure for the hearth needed and you can start to think about how you will want the chamber finishing.
